The conference devoted to objects studying of the Great Silk Road was held in Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.
Research and practice conference “Shehr – Islam” - a heritage of the Great Silk Road was held in conference hall of Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan on January, 26th.
The forum devoted to aspects of studying of a medieval site was mutual organized by the Union and Party of industrialists and entrepreneurs, Institute of archeology and ethnography of Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan. Leading scientists-historians, teachers and students of Turkmen State University named after Mahtumkuli, heads and representatives of Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan and Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan, journalists were invited to participation in conference.
Tremendous value of the work spent in Turkmenistan on revival and studying of a historical and cultural heritage was noted by the participants. As it was marked, this work gets special role in a context of the motto of 2018 – “Turkmenistan is the heart of the Great Silk Road”.
It is remarkable that domestic entrepreneurs provide help actively to scientists in excavation on a site of ancient settlement of Shehr - Islam, also known as medieval settlement Tak-yazyr and located in 20 kilometres to the north of Baharden town in territory of 100 hectares. The film devoted to a fortress city was shown to participants.
During conference employees of Institute of archeology and ethnography Academy of Science of Turkmenistan made presentation of the realized project here. Regular autumn field season ended in December whereby research expedition of Institute spent tremendous volume of works on this unique historical-architectural monument and made many striking discoveries.
Chairman of Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan marked in his speech the value of this historical object not only as sample of extremely developed urban development and architecture of Turkmen, but also as the centre of transit trade entering into system of directions of caravan tracks of the Great Silk Road .
According to the program of carrying out of archeological excavations on monuments along the Great Silk Road confirmed by the President of Turkmenistan for 2018-2021 the Institute of archeology and ethnography will continue archaeological researches in Shehr - Islam. The Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan further intends to render help to this important work.
